I found a stray/lost Boxer ... now what?
Did you find a stray Boxer, and do not know where to turn? Who to contact? No tags or collar to ID the owners? Our advice is to NOT take them to the shelter or pound ... by law, once a dog is submitted to a shelter, the owners only have 5 DAYS to find which shelter their Boxer may have ended up at & pick-up their dog ... after that their beloved pet can be killed/put-to-sleep (or adopted out to someone else). :-O
Instead, go to Lost & Found Dogs (Twin Cities), and post info about the dog, along with a good CLEAR PHOTO. They do a GREAT job there at LFD getting the word out. It is also a good idea to post the same info on Craigslist, under Lost/Found AND one under Pets.
Next, take the dog into a local vet and get the dog scanned for an ID microchip. Make sure to ask if the vet is using a UNIVERSAL scanner, that can read microchips from ALL manufactures. If they do not already do so, insist that they scan the dog all over ... microchips can move.
Also, check the dog over good for an ID TATTOO (under the lip, in the ear, and on the belly by the back legs are popular locations to tattoo the ID).
Then look for flyers in your neighborhood. Contact neighbors, local police, vets, groomers, pet sitters/dog-walkers, pet supply stores, shelters, rescues, pounds, and even let your postman know. Many times they may have been asked to keep an eye out for the lost pet.
By giving a little effort on your part, you could end up being a beloved pet's HERO, by helping to reconnect them with their family, and return them home safely!♥
